Known to be one of the most influential composers of the modern era, Igor Stravinsky’s impact on modern music is truly profound. He is celebrated for the pure beauty of his music with compositions that sound as startlingly original today as they did when they were first performed.
Founded by Ludmilla Chiriaeff in 1957, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal’s performances reflect the diverse trends of contemporary ballet today. A veritable incubator of new talent, the company truly embodies creativity and daring, offering an emotional, theatrical and thrilling vision of the world through dance. Renowned for its extraordinary productions of both new and classical works, Les Grands Ballets earned particular praise for its original versions created by choreographer Stijn Celis of The Rite of Spring and Noces. Both ballets have been hailed by The Globe and Mail as “a master of contemporary ballet” and the prestigious magazine Tanz International of Berlin named Stijn Celis “the most promising choreographer of the year” in 2001.
